SUSTAINABILITY AND EWASTE INITIATIVES
Our Corporate Contribution to Sustainability
Starting in 2020 we began our Green Tech Solutions (GTS) program. In doing so we set forth with 3 main goals I'm mind.
1st we wanted to provide technology recycling assistance to businesses and individuals. In order to do this we decided to begin an electronics recycling program. This program would include both drop off and pick up recycling services for the local community and beyond.
2nd during many service calls we would continue to see multiple job locations in which their appeared to be years or even decades of old unused cable infrastructure just cluttering up network rooms and business locations. As a means of helping clients clean up their business locations we decided to begin a cable removal and remediation service. This service would ensure the responsible recycling of scrap copper and aluminum found in data and electrical cables. We later expanded this service to include other scrap materials often found on business locations such as the used lead acid batteries found in uninterrupted power supplies (UPS).
Both of these recycling programs got off to successful starts and have grown substantially since their start. We have tracked the progress of the programs by looking at the total weight recycled based on item types or recycled material. The results can be found in our annual GTS Progress Report Paper.
Finally, we wanted to reduce our carbon footprint by moving as much of our electricity consumption to be more responsibly sourced. We started by installing solar panels with off grid lead acid battery storage for use with our office network equipment. As this idea was proven successfully we continued to scale to our current capacity. At the beginning of 2022 we decided to move away from lead acid battery storage and are using a lithium ion battery bank's. In doing this we were able to increase our max storage capacity and increase the lifespan of our system. This aditional battery capacity has allowed us the ability to also provide power to our server equipment in addition to our networking equipment.
Our future goals entail being able to power our entire facility off grid using solar panels in combinationwith lithium battery storage.
RECYCLE AND SAVE!
Electronic equipment waste such as computers, televisions, audio/visual equipment, phones and other office electronics is one of the fastest growing segments of our modern societies waste stream. Generally referred to as “e-waste”, it requires special attention in order to ensure the proper disposal of such items. This is to insure we can reclaim and recycle the precious metals, plastics, and other materials of which either do not break down or have a limited global quantity.
The proper recycling of e-waste is held in high regard. For this reason JUST IT SOLUTIONS has partnered with local recycling facilities to make sure any electronic waste you accumulate throughout the years can be dropped off or picked up by one of our team members and recycled in the proper manor.
